McMorris Photo News Fire on Bogtown, Salem August 8, 2017 A home near Dunnigan and Bogtown Roads was destroyed by fire early Tuesday, according to officials the cause was a debris pile fire set by the property owner jumped to the home. Fire companies from Salem, Greenwich, Hebron, Shushan, Schuylerville, Cossayuna, Cambridge and Rupert, Vermont assisted and remained on the scene into late morning. The home has been vacant for some time. Salem Assistant Fire Chief Steven Saunders said he spotted the fire when driving nearby, and when he arrived, a large portion of the building had already burned to the ground. The property owner, identified as Kingsbury resident Richard Baker, had been burning materials nearby when the fire apparently spread to the home. The home had been a six-bedroom, two-bathroom home. An officer from the state Department of Environmental Conservation was on scene to look into whether any charges should be filed in connection with the burning of material before the fire spread to the home. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Fire Coordinator’s Office were also at the scene. |
